More About MCC in Asia

Who we are

The whole of who we are as MCC Asia includes not only our Anabaptist partners and supporters but all the people with whom we walk and work.  The staff of MCC Asia is made up of local citizens of the countries in which we work employed together with expatriate volunteers from elsewhere in the world.  You can get involved inMCC's work with your own spirit, mind, and hands by serving, donating, making kits, advocatingsorting, canning, participating in relief sales, and supporting material resouce centers.

What we do

Our country programs focus on partnerships with local Asian organizations who share common goals with MCC on disaster relief efforts, sustainable community development projects, and promoting peace and justice.  Through these relationships we hope to build authentic, transparent partnerships which work toward mutual accountability and capacity building.  MCC's target populations for these efforts include small -scale farming communities, school-age children, people affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and peoples known as "the enemy."

When we act

MCC Asia responds to urgent human need in the face of natural disasters and wars, supports local projects in need of resources, and commits to long-term partnerships with churches and organizations that ground our work.  As stewards of God’s creation, MCC Asia seeks partnerships and projects that will honor God’s gift in a durable way by promoting environmental, social, and economic sustainability as well as a lasting peace that includes justice for those marginalized by systemic oppression, and in need of God’s upside-down kingdom.

Where we work

We work where we live.  MCC Asia service workers live in community with locals in many countries, offering resources and trusting in a community’s ability to identify and face its own challenges if given the means.  Long-term relationships with local people, including Anabaptist groups, give MCC an essential grounding and provide a background of commitment where other organizations may not have such connections.  Stories from Asia reach local MCC chapters and supporters across Canada and the United States.

Why we give

MCC is rooted in the witness of the global church and seeks to honor God's love and compassion for all by responding to basic human need around the world.  Mutual transformation as people live among and learn about each other is a strength of MCC’s service work exchange model, and this experience enriches all, with no party only giving or only receiving.   Our staff is also enriched every year by  MCC's Global Service Learning exchanges that weave a web of  neighbors across the globe.

How we live

In light of the biblical call to be peacemakers, MCC seeks and promotes non-violent transformation of conflict and oppression that pairs peace with justice.  Working towards a vision of God’s reign on earth, MCC Asia workers live and learn in community with their neighbors, building bridges across national, cultural, political, religious, and economic divides.  MCC Asia works together with Asian organizations to build toward a global culture of peace among peoples who have known war and its many consequences for so long.
